It’s official! War Paint’s closing has been moved up to November 5th, 2017 due to Ms. Lupone’s need for hip replacement surgery sooner rather than later.
The entire company had taken a much needed week long vacation so that our two amazing leading ladies could have a deserved break before finishing the final weeks on The Great White Way, but Patti just wasn’t getting better. She had wanted to continue performances but, physically just could not ignore the issue. and the Producers wisely decided to close the show so she could get the surgery and finally be pain free.
The show hung in there in a very crowded Broadway season, and managed to outlast other musicals who had garnered better accolades. One thing is assured; Regional Theaters will be presenting their local divas performing the plum roles of Arden and Rubinstein for audiences to enjoy for many years to come.
I will write about my “War Paint” journey after I am happily ensconced in my home, and taken the time to ruminate the ups and the downs of the experience.
Summer is over, Autumn is here, and life continues to hurtle forward at an increasing speed that takes your breath away! I’ve noticed I keep repeating “there by the Grace of God go I” almost everyday……and so I do!
